Unveiling the Enchantment: You’re Guide to Ajodhya Hills

A Journey through Time:

History whispers through the very air of Sitarampur. The village finds its mention in ancient texts, believed to be the hermitage of Rishi Valmiki, the revered author of the Ramayana. Its name itself speaks of Rama and Sita's sojourn during their exile. The village still bears the remnants of their presence, with local tales and landmarks like the "Sita Kund" (pond) adding to its historical allure. Ajodhya Hills, nestled in the verdant embrace of West Bengal's Purulia district, beckons travellers seeking an escape into nature's serenity. This captivating weekend getaway boasts breath-taking landscapes, thrilling activities, and historical whispers, offering a perfect blend of relaxation and adventure. So, pack your bags, lace up your shoes, and get ready to discover the magic of Ajodhya Hills!

Reaching Your Serene Escape-How to reach ajodhya pahar:

By Road: Ajodhya Hills lies approximately 330 km from Kolkata, making it a comfortable 6-7 hour drive. The scenic route, lined with lush greenery, adds to the charm of the journey. Choose from national highways like NH18 and NH14 for a smooth ride.

By Train: Take a train to Purulia Junction (PRY) from Howrah Junction (HWH). The journey takes around 7-8 hours. From Purulia, hire a taxi or local transport to reach Ajodhya Hills, which is about 70 km away. Imagine verdant landscapes painted in a thousand shades of green, where towering Sal, teak, and Mahua trees whisper secrets to the wind. Imagine cascading waterfalls thundering down rocky cliffs, their cool mist kissing your cheeks. Imagine serene lakes reflecting the azure sky, inviting you to dip your toes in their crystalline waters. This, dear traveller, is the enchanting world of Ajodhya Hills, nestled in the heart of West Bengal's Purulia district.

A Tapestry of Natural Wonders:

Your journey begins with the Bamni Falls, a majestic spectacle hidden within the embrace of the forest. Hike down a gentle trail, inhaling the earthy aroma of the woods, and emerge to the sight of cascading water painting rainbows in the sunlight. Nearby stalls offer a glimpse into the vibrant local culture, where you can find handcrafted treasures to remember your adventure.

Escape the ordinary at the Marble Lake, also known as Tarpaniya Lake. Envision towering rock formations framing the crystal-clear waters, creating a scene akin to a fairy-tale. Gaze down at the glistening expanse from the top, or stand beside the lake, feeling the wind carry whispers of serenity.

For the explorer within, Ajodhya Hill Top serves as your base camp. Here, amidst the bustling heart of the hills, you'll find comfortable havens and delicious local fare to fuel your explorations. Rise early and embark on a challenging climb to the peak of Mayur Pahar. As you conquer the ascent, reward yourself with a breath-taking panoramic view of the entire Ajodhya Hills range, stretching out like a verdant tapestry before you.

Whispers of Adventure:

The Turga Falls beckon with their symphony of sound, urging you to join the chorus of nature. Trek through the lush greenery, your heart pounding with anticipation as the thunderous roar grows closer. Emerge to the sight of cascading water, a powerful display of nature's untamed beauty.

At Pakhi Pahar, an artistic marvel unfolds. Imagine a canvas carved from the earth, upon which the renowned artist Chitta Dey has breathed life into 65 sculptures of birds. Wander through this open-air gallery, surrounded by verdant forests, and marvel at the dedication and passion poured into each creation. Keen-eyed travellers can also turn their gaze skyward, for Pakhi Pahar is a haven for birdwatchers too.

Marvel at the engineering marvels of the Upper and Lower Dams, part of the Purulia Pumped Storage Project. Imagine towering concrete structures holding back vast reserves of water, a testament to human ingenuity. Stand at the scenic viewpoint between the dams and witness the breath-taking spectacle of the Lower Dam, a picture of power and grandeur.

A Touch of History and Lore:

Immerse yourself in the local legend of Rama and Sita at the tiny hot water spring named Sitakunda. Believed to have been created by Rama's arrow, this sacred spot adds a touch of history and cultural significance to your exploration.
