The journey to Mulkharka Lake in Sikkim is steadily gaining popularity as a "family trek." It's a rare Himalayan journey where you can bring your family along and make the most of every second like a genuine family vacation.
The "Mulkarkhais" lake, also known as the "Wishing Lake," is considered sacred by the locals. Anyone who makes a wish in that lake is said to find their wish coming true without a doubt. You will have the impression at that very instant that your wishes had been spiritually ... acknowledged together with your surroundings. To say the least, the locals' warmth is incredible. They make every effort to provide the greatest service possible so that there is no discomfort for their guests. You can find yourself craving the authentic traditional cuisine over and over again. This lake is one of the only 2 lakes where one can see the reflection of Mount Kanchenjunga like a mirror. Neora Valley is very close to Mulkharka.
On the borders of Sikkim and West Bengal, the hike to Mulkharka Lake passes through the small villages of Jhusing, Tagathan, Mularkha, and Aritar. Keep an eye out for the homestays in Jhusing and Mulkarkha.
Mulkarkha Lake is best visited during the months of October and June. April is also a great time to visit if you want to see a cultural event. The residents worship the lake in a festive frenzy as they celebrate Ram Navami. The lake is worshipped by the inhabitants and villagers during this time of year because they believe that it comes to life.
