Kolakham is a little, charming village located in the Neora Valley National Park's buffer zone in the Kalimpong subdivision of the Kalimpong district. With a typical elevation of 1981 meters (6500 feet), Kolakham is distinguished by sharply rising hills and several small streams. With only 60 to 70 families, most of whom are Nepali and belong to the Rai group, .. Kolakham is mostly a rural village. Because Kolakham is gifted with a vast bio-diversity of floras and faunas, it is the perfect tourist destination for those who enjoy the outdoors and bird watching.

Visitors can hike to Lava, which is 8 km away from Kolakham, and visit Lava Monastery while there. Kolakham's to Lava's road winds across terrain that is hilly and heavily forested.
2. Changey Falls
A significant attraction to see from Kolakham is Changey Falls, which is approximately 4 km away and can be reached by four-wheel drive. From the final motorable road, tourists must descend 900 meters on foot to reach the waterfall's base.
3. Neora Valley National Park
Neora Valley National Park has a unique eco-system consisting of tropical, sub-tropical, sub-temperate, and temperate vegetation. The surrounding areas of Kolakham are abundant in floras like Rhododendron, Sal, Oak, Bamboo, Ferns etc. Apart from that in the months of March and April Kolakham blooms with wide species of Orchids all over.
Tourists visiting Kolakham can get rare encounters with wildlife species like Leopard, Wild Dogs, Wild Hogs, Himalayan Black Bear, Clouded Leopard, Himalayan Sero and above all if one is lucky enough could get a rare sight of Himalayan Red Panda also known as Red Fox, but these are very rarely seen.
4. Bird Watching
Bird watching is one of the major activities of Kolakham as the hamlet is home to wide species of Himalayan birds like Sunbirds, Tit, Warbler, Redstart, Thrush, Yuhina, Accentors Common Nighthawk, Tragopan, Woodpecker, Barbet, Verditer Fly Catcher, Wagtail, Scarlet Minivet, Fantail, Finch, Barwing and others are to name but a few.
5. Rishyap
Rishyap is another point of tourist interest located at a distance of 18 km away from Kolakham via Lava. Rishyap is famously known for its panoramic view of the Himalayan ranges.
6. Lolegaon
A four-wheel drive vehicle can also travel from Kolakham to the 32 km away Lolegaon or Loleygaon. At Lolegaon, you should admire the forest hanging bridge or the canopy walk as well as the breathtaking view of the snow-capped Himalayan ranges.
7. Village Walking
Tourists can choose to take a village stroll through Kolakham to discover the town's undiscovered natural gems, or they can interact with the locals and partake in their daily activities.

Nearest Railway Station is New Mal Junction (MAL BAZAR). From New Mal Junction to Kolakham is only 63 km. via Lava (52 km.)

From New Jalpaiguri (NJP) Railway Station, it is about 117 km. You can take any train from different places of India to New Jalpaiguri (NJP) and then by car to Lava and Kolakham.
Nearest Airport Bagdogra at Siliguri is about 130 km away. You can book a cab to travel the remaining distance.

If you want to cancel your booking due to any Natural Disaster or COVID-19 or Due to harsh weather conditions, homestays & camps located in remote regions have to make preparations for your stay much in advance. The booking amount is 100% refundable if a cancellation is made 15 days prior to the Commencement or Check-In date. For cancellations made within 15 days from the date of trip Commencement or Check-In, no refund will be applicable.
